News for July and August 2021

Dear brothers and sisters, we are experiencing the summer months, which most of us are using for recovery and recreation. I wish you all success in this endeavor. Currently, the website of the Ministry of Health has published adjustments to the requirements for attending services as follows: social distancing of 2 meters remains mandatory, unless they are members of the same household, hand sanitization is required upon entering the church, it is not necessary — if the distance from other participants is greater than 2 meters — to wear a mask or respirator, although it is still strongly recommended.

Since attendance at services typically does not reach greater capacity than the maximum limit, during the summer we can waive the need for reservations for Sunday Mass. We will likely return to this practice after the summer.

Currently (please follow this article for further announcements):

  • next Sunday, July 18, the Mass will be broadcast at 9:00 AM on Czech Radio.

Update: On July 25, which is the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Pope Francis declared it a World Day for Seniors and Grandparents. This step was taken due to the experience of last year, when during the COVID pandemic, it was precisely the seniors who made up the most vulnerable part of society. For the sake of protecting their health, they were left alone, often dying isolated from their loved ones, and they continue to carry this experience in their lives. Pope Francis therefore encourages us to take practical steps to be close to them again. Visiting those who are lonely, expressing closeness to them, and conveying the message that the Pope wrote for them is the challenge of the day. Seniors will be particularly remembered in the liturgy of that day as well. Anyone who visits or connects with seniors through communication means that day and participates in the liturgical celebration will be able to receive plenary indulgences, which can also be offered for the souls in purgatory after fulfilling the three usual conditions (sacrament of reconciliation, receiving the Eucharist that day, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father). I attach for reading the decree on indulgences, the message from Pope Francis, and the prayer for this day.

I wish you a blessed summer time!
