The first half of the Advent season is primarily devoted to the reminder that Jesus promised his glorious return, while the second half of Advent – the pre-Christmas week – recaps the events that preceded his first coming. As people waiting, we are aware of what St. Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians (3:20): But our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also eagerly await the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. We want to remember this truth especially during the Advent period.
In the week starting December 1, we have an online catechism class on Tuesday at 20:30. On Thursday at 19:00, there will be a meeting at the Club discussing Scripture and the topic. During Advent, there will be a prayer of the rosary for peace in the world after regular mass at the Church of the Holy Family. During Advent, there will be Rorate Masses in our parish every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 7:00 at the Church of the Holy Family. Starting from the first Sunday of Advent, Christmas-themed postcards made by the children of our parish will be sold in the foyer of the Church of the Holy Family before and after mass. The proceeds will be sent to the Pontifical Mission Societies. The price of one postcard is 20 CZK. In our parish, three catechumens are preparing for baptism; those of you who wish to support them with regular prayers until Easter can find prayer cards for them at the back of the church. If you are interested, please take one card for your family. I invite you to a spiritual retreat at Strahov, on Saturday, December 14, from 9 to approximately 14 hours. The retreat will be led by P. Hyacint Pavel Kuchta, OPraem., and registration is, as usual, here on the parish website.
In the week starting December 8, there will be an online Bible hour on Tuesday at 20:30. On Wednesday at 12:00, there will be a farewell in the Church of the Holy Family for † Mr. Vladimír Maršík. On Thursday at 19:00, there will be a pastoral council meeting at the Club. On Saturday, there will be a spiritual renewal for the parish. The start is at 9:00 at Strahov. In the week starting December 15, there will be pre-Christmas confessions at 16:30 in the Church of the Holy Family. On Tuesday at 18:45, there will be a meeting of the parish economic council in the Church of St. Martin. For this reason, there will be no online meeting. We ask for volunteers to watch over the nativity scene in the Church of St. Martin. The schedule will be available in the church foyer. In the appendix to the article is a letter from Bishop Wasserbauer regarding the Sunday of the Word of God.
In the week starting December 22, there will be no online meeting on Tuesday. The mass on Tuesday at 16:00 will be accompanied by choral singing and is especially for families. The midnight mass is at two times: 22:00 at St. Martin's, and at midnight at the Holy Family. On Friday, wine will be blessed at the end of the mass. Please place your wine before the altar. The mass next Sunday will be broadcast by Czech Radio and will include the blessing of couples.
